Michael A. Hanzman, Of Counsel to Ackerman, Link & Sartory, practices in the Miami office in the areas of securities arbitration, complex commercial litigation, and select class actions. Michael also regularly serves as a Mediator and/or Arbitrator and has been appointed as a Special Master in a number of highly complex matters such as the DuPont-Benlate and Tobacco cases litigated in South Florida.
Michael has acted as Lead Counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants in many of the largest and most complex commercial and class action cases handled in the Southern District of Florida, including the Premium Sales and Mutual Benefits class actions. He has published on a wide variety of legal topics and is nationally recognized in the field of securities law and class actions, having been a frequent guest on CNN, Money Line and other broadcasts. His cases and results have been widely published in the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Money Magazine and various news services. He is a frequent lecturer on securities and commercial litigation related matters before bar business organizations. He is a member of the Florida Bar and with the Dade County Bar Association, and has served on the Legal Aid and Public Service Committee and the Professional Arbitration Committee.
Michael has been named one of the Top Lawyers in South Florida as designated by the South Florida Legal Guide each year since 2001. Florida Trend Magazine chose him as one of the "Florida Legal Elite" every year since 2004. The Elite list represents the top 1.6% of currently practicing Florida Bar members. For the past few years, Michael also has been listed in Florida Super Lawyers, and the Daily Business Review named him the Most Effective Lawyer in 2007 for Real Estate - Litigation based upon his client obtaining a $90 million dollar recovery after a ten year legal battle over ocean front property in Bal Harbor, Florida. He served as a member of the Federal Judicial Nominating Committee, the Federal Judicial Bar and Community Liaison Committee.
Michael is also active in civic and community organizations. He was a founder of Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach and has served on the Boards of the International Fine Arts College, Central Agency for Jewish Education, the Voices for Children Foundation and Charlee, Inc., a not-for-profit organization devoted to housing and supporting abused children. He has been honored by a number of charitable organizations - most recently Hope for Vision and the Counsel for Educational Change - for his philanthropy and dedication to improving his community.
